You’ve probably seen the super ripped couple prepping for their body building competition at the gym, or the pair of runners training at the crack of dawn and think “Wow, couple goals” or on the other hand “What a crazy pair!” But what is it like to train with your partner? Britt and Matt are here to spill the sweat on the pros and cons of training together.
Brittany Blanco & Matt Hutchinson
@brittblanco93 & @hutchy_93
Britt and Matt are a fun-loving, triathlon-loving, adventure seekers from Townsville, Far North Queensland. You’ll see this couple training hard, with cycles up steep ranges, runs in Tropical North Queensland heat and long swims in the pools to avoid the croc water. This pair know the true meaning of training hard (you don’t get quads like that from Netflix & chill).
Pros of Training Together
Britt: So many! We both wake up to an early alarm together so it’s harder to sleep in and skip training as we both motivate each other to get out of bed and get to training!! Also get to spend more time together.
Matt: When you feel like a snail pounding the pavement or following that repetitive, boring black line in the pool for k’s, you’ve always got someone to pick you up and keep you going through those tuff training days.
Cons of Training Together
Britt: We are both at different fitness levels. Obviously Matt is a lot faster/stronger than me so I don’t want to hold him back by training with me.
Matt: You have double the amount of dirty exercise gear lying around to be washed.
Advice for Couples
Britt: Don’t forget to encourage your girl by buying her lots of Lorna Jane or a nice new cycle kit!!
Matt: Keep training with each other as much as possible… You’re helping each other in more ways than you realize.
Stay tuned for next week where Heather Wilson and Jake Salmon, triathletes from North Queensland, share their experiences of training together.
