Servant leadership is primarily a relationship of equals which is an experience in which all feel they are giving and receiving. At Iona College servant leaders express unlimited responsibility for others:
- Accept people as they are
- Learn to empathise
The aim of all Servant leaders is to help build the community:
- Foster right relationships
- Work for the common good
- Leadership: “first among equals” (facilitator)
- Recognition/celebration
- Jettison privileges: self-sacrifice (Nehemiah 5: 14-19)
- Look for goodness in people
- Create space for growth
- Encourage independence
- Practice hospitality
