CONGRATULATIONS! You have made it to the interview stage! We all know that interviews are overwhelming and for a lot of us this means sweaty palms, a racing heart, and for some a nervous twitch! But with plenty of preparation you will be able to present yourself with confidence and give yourself the best opportunity to sell you!
BEFORE THE INTERVIEW
DO YOUR RESEARCH! Learn about our company and our history. Research what NightOwl is and what we sell!
PREPARE QUESTIONS! An interview process should not be a one sided affair and it is also your opportunity to make sure that we are the right fit for you. Think about your role within the company, your team, your career! If you get stuck, there are plenty of websites that specialise in interview questions. Again, do your research!
DECIDE ON YOUR REFEREES! Ensure that you have a list of two or three names and their contact details to give as referees. Make sure that your referees know that you are nominating them!
DAY OF THE INTERVIEW
DRESS TO IMPRESS! Remember that first impressions count. Dress appropriately for the interview. Make sure your clothes are clean and ironed and that your shoes are well maintained. Get your clothes ready the night before so that you are not rushing last minute. For females, keep hair, fragrance and makeup simple. For males, ensure that you are well groomed and not drowning in a version of Old Spice!
TURN YOUR MOBILE OFF! Not just on silent but turn it right off as soon as you arrive at your interview location.
DON’T BE LATE! Ensure that prior to the interview, you locate the address on a map and find out where to park or what public transport route to take. If you have time, even try a practice run! Remember that if your interview is during peak traffic times, allow yourself extra time.
THE INTERVIEW
THANK YOU! Ensure that you greet the interviewer with a firm handshake and that you thank them for seeing you.
BE POSITIVE! Always be positive about any previous employers and never speak badly about old bosses or team members.
BE YOURSELF! Speak clearly and enthusiastically. We want to get to know you so be yourself.
LISTEN! Ensure that you listen carefully to what the interviewer is saying and make sure you answer the question that is asked.
ASK QUESTIONS! Use the questions that you prepared earlier to find out more about the company and the role. If you think of other questions during the interview, now is the time to raise these also.
FAREWELL: Ensure that you thank your interviewer for seeing you. If you are still interested in the position, make this clear upon your exit by letting the interviewer know that you are looking forward to hearing from them.
