Foundation Day Celebration

On 1st of October 1957, the Oblates of Mary Immaculate arrived on the land on which Iona College is now situated.  This land was gifted to the Oblates by Archbishop Duhig to establish a boys’ college.

Fr Long OMI and Fr McCarthy OMI had a mere four months to ready the site for a school to start on 28 January 1958. The local families worked with the priests, and together they established the foundations of community and loyalty that Iona rests upon today.

Foundation Day was celebrated on Wednesday 19 October with a college assembly.
